COACH DAVID'S TIP: CHOOSING A TRAINING PLAN

The adventure has just begun - we have six months until the Los Angeles Marathon presented by ASICS. Let’s get the party started!

Have you downloaded your LARR Training Plan? Mileage starts this week but don’t worry if you’re still figuring out your routine or which plan works for you. Generally speaking:

Level 1 is for walkers and run/walkers, as well as beginners and those returning to running after an injury
Level 2 includes a little speed work (10% of weekly total) and is great for advanced beginners who are not new to running.
Level 3 is for those who have competed in other races and would like to be a little more competitive. 15% of total mileage is speedwork.
Level 4 is for experienced runners who compete in multiple races a year. You have a goal for a PR or a qualifying time.
Level 5 is our most competitive plan. It is good for those who rank high in their age group and are aiming for a PR

Pick a plan based on your current fitness, not where you think you should be. Consider how much time you have for training each week and whether you just want to complete or compete in the LA Marathon. Still not sure? Join the Online Coach Chat on Thursday at 6:30pm to ask questions and find the best plan for you.

This coming weekend 9/21-22 is our training kickoff! Most groups will go about 3 miles at Easy Pace (advanced groups will go 6 miles). Easy Pace is the comfortable pace where you can maintain a conversation without noticeable pauses for breathing. This is where we do most of our training to build "endurance" - we'll talk about this in depth on Thursday too.

Have an inspired week!
