ORIENTATION WEEKEND - LET'S GET READY!

Congratulations to everyone who earned their medals at the Santa Monica Classic. We loved seeing you at our booth on Saturday and on the course on Sunday!

It’s LARR’s Orientation Week and we’re starting our 26-week journey to the ASICS Los Angeles Marathon. Whether you're already signed up for LARR or still thinking about it - you're invited to join us at any of our online or in-person orientations this week to see if the training program is right for you (see below for details).

Wondering what else you should be doing this week? Here are some tips:

Download our Training Plans from the Training Resources page to get started and preview the season's mileage. You’ll see when we do our longest miles and what type of mid-week mileage you want to plan for.

Get a sense of your level and/or pace. Plug a recent race result, like Santa Monica Classic, or fast training effort into a pace calculator to convert it to marathon training pace times. While not a perfect science, a pace calculator will get you in the ballpark for the group to train with - it's easy to switch groups at any time. If you’re a total beginner or just returning to the sport, don’t worry for now. We'll help you figure it out.

Check your shoes. If you’ve been running in the same shoes for a long time and are feeling a bit beaten up, or have never invested in a good pair of running shoes, it may be time. Head to a specialty running store and ask for advice. You want a well-designed pair of shoes that will give you enough support to cover a lot of miles.

Talk to your family and/or friends about your training. Later in the season, there will be long training days when you will be away from home for multiple hours and tired when you get home. There will be days you want to celebrate and days you’re discouraged. Having support from family/friends helps with the highs and the lows.

Bring your questions about membership to Thursday's Online Chat and then plan to visit one or two of the locations below for in-person orientations. You're welcome to visit any of them even if you're not a member.

Have an inspired week!

P.S. This newsletter is currently being sent to everyone on our mailing list. Beginning in October we will only send specific training and route information to registered members. Sign up before the price increase on September 28.
